Overview
MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Government of Japan) and the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR offer scholarships to Lao students who wish to study at Japanese Universities/College of Technology/Senshu-gakko (Professional training college). There are seven programs, as follows.
Research Students
The Embassy of Japan will select Lao students to study at the master's degree course at Japanese universities as a foreign research student. Applicants must be Lao citizen and under 35 years of age and have completed or will complete course from undergraduate level. The term of scholarship is 2 years (including half year of Japanese language education). However, the term of scholarship is depended on the curriculum of education such as master’s degree course/or doctor's degree course level /and or the professional courses.
Qualifications
1. Applicant must be a Lao citizen.
2. Applicant must have been born on or after April 2, 1976.
3. Applicants must satisfy qualification requirements for admission to a Japanese graduate school.
4. Application documents need to show that the applicant obtained academic achievement higher than a certain level at the university he or she last graduated from.
5. The study area of applicants must be the field that the applicant studied at the previous university or any related field.
6. Applicants are required to submit approval from their present employers prior to accepting a scholarship.
Selection Process
1. The Embassy of Japan will make preliminary selection based on submitted application documents.
2. Those who pass the preliminary selection will take written language examinations in Japanese and English.Date and Venue: Saturday 12 June 2010 at the Embassy of Japan. (Japanese: 9:00-10:00, English: 10:20-11:20.)
*The applicants do not have to have prior knowledge of the Japanese language. But those who receive scholarships are expected to be willing to learn the language.
3. Interview date will be announced to those who passed the written tests.
Applicants are expected to submit their application forms to the Embassy by 24 May 2010, 17:00. Applicants from the public sector should submit their forms to the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, by 21 May. Medical certificate is not required to submit at this stage.
