Overview
The Government of Ontario has created the Hilary M. Weston Scholarship to commemorate The Honourable Hilary M. Weston’s term in office as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
The scholarship will be granted each year to two students enrolled in a full-time graduate level social work program at a publicly funded university. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in and commitment to mental health issues, as well as outstanding scholastic achievements. Each successful applicant will receive a one-time award of $7,500.
Who can receive these awards?To be eligible you must:
• have demonstrated your interest in and commitment to mental health issues through community service or paid work;
• plan to register in a full-time graduate level social work program at a publicly funded Ontario university in the next academic year. If you are a student with a permanent disability, you must be taking a minimum of 40% of a full course load;
• have demonstrated academic excellence;
• be an Ontario resident. You are considered an Ontario resident if you have lived in Ontario for at least twelve consecutive months immediately preceding your registration in a social work program.
How are the recipients selected?
An independent Selection Committee will review each application and select the scholarship recipients.
How do I apply?
You can either nominate someone online or fill in and send us a nomination form. You can download the nomination form from this website in PDF and HTML formats.
When is the deadline?
You can submit nomination forms at any time. The deadline is December 15 of each year. If December 15 falls on a weekend or holiday, nominations will be accepted until 5 p.m. the next business day. All nominations received after the deadline date will be considered for the following year.
