The Department of Psychology at UL is the dedicated to the psychological study of social issues. It provides excellent research opportunities, based on the expertise of its staff, combined with a student centred supportive and nurturing environment. This enables its research students to fully achieve their research and career aspirations.

The Application Process
Members of the department are always interested to speak to those interested in pursuing a PhD by research.
The studentships are tied to particular projects, see www.ul.ie/psychology for project details. Topics that individual students would like to pursue as well as information about the costs and potential sources of funding for post graduate study can be discussed with our PG tutor, Dr. Ronni Greenwood, or with the staff members whose research interests best align with your own.
Studentships and selection criteria
The studentships currently available are to support research in the areas listed below. Students are required to undertake a maximum of 6 hours of teaching a week in return for a maintenance stipend. It is anticipated that students will also be eligible for a UL fee waiver. Candidates will be selected based on academic ability, research potential and their match and interest in the chosen project area.
Applicants may apply for one or all of these projects, however only one funded project will be attached to each supervisor.
Eligible candidates
Applicants should have, or be expected to obtain, a good higher Honours degree in Psychology (or a closely related discipline - in these cases individuals will need to demonstrate their research skills and abilities).
Research ability as evidenced by research competence or excellence at undergraduate level.
An ability to communicate effectively.
Demonstrable aptitude and interest in social psychological research.
