Fostering mutual understanding between the people of Algeria and the United States through educational and cultural exchange.
What is a Fulbright Scholarship?
Fulbright Scholarships enable Algerians to pursue graduate-level study (primarily Masters Degrees) in the United States, build leadership skills, and exchange cultural understanding with Americans. Who can apply? Scholarships are open to Algerian citizens living in Algeria who:
- hold a minimum of a BA/BS degree;
- want to pursue graduate study level (Primarily Masters) in any field (except medicine). Priority will be given to the following fields: English, social sciences and humanities;
- are proficient in English;
- are able to function easily in academic and social settings;
- hold a recent TOEFL score (within one year) of 575 (PBT); 85-90 (IBT) or higher;
Candidates must be citizens of Algeria and permanent resident of the country qualified to hold a valid passport issued by that country.
Individuals with U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residence status are NOT eligible for the Fulbright Scholarship.
What are the benefits? The scholarship covers:
- Two year tuition at a U.S. university (either two years Master program or two years of a Ph. D. program);
- a living and book/supply stipend;
- round-trip international airfare to the U.S. ;
- insurance for the duration of the study program;
- Fulbright students may also be able to attend special seminars and presentations during their time in the U.S.
N.B. Students are highly recommended to take the TOEFL IBT or PBT exams and the GRE exam no later than the month of October.
The scholarship is provided for the recipient only.

1. Completed online application on the following web site: https://apply.embark.com/student/fulbright/international/20/ .
2. Statement of purpose describing your research program.
3. Copy of diploma and copy of university transcripts (original version and English version)
4. TOEFL and GRE score reports.
5. Three letters of reference in English to be filled out by professors.
The application deadline is July 15, 2010. In addition to the online application, a word copy of the application and the completed dossier must be returned in person by July 15, 2010 to:
