Denmark: Professorship in Intellectual Property Law at Copenhagen Business School

Overview

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant position as Full Professor in Intellectual Property Law. The position is a tenured position.

The Department of Law at CBS bears responsibility for research and teaching in commercial law, i.e. that part of the legal system that concerns the conditions under which business operates. The Department's main areas of research and teaching are currently ICT, contracts, competition, marketing, public procurement, labour law, tax law, intellectual property, international trade, and media. In addition, a number of scholars analyse legal issues from cross-disciplinary perspectives, especially law and economics. The influence of EU and international law on the Danish legal system is a central area of research in regards to all the mentioned areas. The Department is among the leading EU-law research environments in Scandinavia, which is evidenced by a high degree of international publications, international conferences and network cooperation.

Successful applicants must have an international profile, a strong record of research publications, and teaching experience in intellectual property law. They must be capable of providing dynamic leadership in the development of research and teaching, in securing external research funding, and in establishing strong ties with industry.

Successful applicants are expected to be physically present and to participate in the activities of the department as well as maintaining and establishing broad links across CBS.

The position is a Full Professorship with research and teaching obligations.

Responsibilities

• Personal research meeting high international standards, including responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching.
• The academic development of intellectual property law.
• Research management, initiation of research projects, supervision of PhD students, international research co-operation, reviewing for academic journals.
• Research education and further training of researchers, supervision of assistant professors and assessment committee work.
• Teaching at a high level, preparation and participation in examinations at the Copenhagen Business School.
• Educational development and other relevant assignments at the Copenhagen Business School.
• Fundraising, including applications to national and international research councils.
• Communication of knowledge in society, including participation in public debate.
The Professor is expected to contribute to the development and application of the department's research areas.

Furthermore, the Professor is expected to contribute to and maintain the development of the international research position of the department.

Qualifications

Candidates must document a high degree of relevant, original and up-to-date scientific publications at an international level within intellectual property law. The field of intellectual property law in this context is interpreted broadly to include patent and copyright law, trademark law with particular emphasis on EU and international law in these areas.

Importance is put on the candidate's ability to undertake research management and other relevant management functions.

The candidate should be able to document pedagogical qualifications, good teaching evaluations, and the ability to innovate within the educational field.

CBS emphasises the candidate's ability to establish productive contacts with the business community.

The appointment will be made on contractual terms corresponding to a salary grade 37 plus a personal allowance.

The position is announced according to the Ministerial Order No 284 regarding appointment of academic staff at universities by 25 April 2008 and according to the Circular Letter regarding academic staff at universities by 22 December 2004 plus note of 18 December 2006

2. Proof of qualifications and a full CV.
3. Documentation of relevant, significant, original research at an international level.
4. Documentation of previous teaching experience.
5. Information indicating experience in research management, industry co-operation and international co-operation.
6. A complete, numbered list of publications (indicating titles, co-authors, page numbers, and year) with an * marking the academic productions to be considered during the review. A maximum of 10 publications for review is allowed. Applicants are requested to prioritise their publications in relation to the field of this job advertisement.
7. Copies of the publications marked with an * (three copies to be submitted). Only publications written in English or one of the Scandinavian languages will be taken into consideration.

An expert committee will review the received job applications. The committee's recommendation of each candidate will be submitted by e-mail to the person in question.
