FIELD OF STUDY
European Union affairs, European integration or U.S. - E.U. relations.
VALUE
A monthly stipend of € 3000, plus a lump sum of € 2,000 for round-trip air transportation and relocation costs (up to a maximum of € 30,000 per grantee). Health and accident insurance and visa sponsorship (J visa category) are also provided.
NUMBER, TYPE & WHERE TENABLE
Eleven to thirteen awards for research and/or post-graduate study on EU affairs or US-EU relations at an accredited U.S. university or independent research center. Candidates are responsible for arranging their own affiliation and can request projects tenable in a maximum of two different US institutions;
Two to four one-semester awards for lecturing on EU affairs or U.S.-E.U. relations, integration, and political economy at a selected U.S. university. The successful candidates will be placed in an appropriate institution. Detailed information on the American universities requesting an EU Scholar-in-Residence is available in December.
DURATION
Minimum period of three (3) months;
Maximum period of 10 months.
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must:
- be citizens of the EU;
- be professionals (decision makers, policy makers, individuals in industry, the media, politics, academia and public administration);
- have at least two years of work -related experience beyond the bachelor's degree;
- have a doctoral degree or equivalent professional experience and at least two years of professional experience before departure for the United States (research candidate);
- have the necessary university credentials to be accepted into an American graduate program and two years of professional experience (student category);
- have academic/professional experience in at least two different E.U. countries;
- have personal qualities, a proven level of academic or professional excellence as well as outstanding records;
- be proficient in English.
Please note that current or retired officials of Community institutions are not eligible to apply.
METHOD OF APPLICATION
Final application forms duly completed must reach the Commission by March 1.
Candidates for research awards must have already established at least one affiliation with an American institution. Candidates for study awards must have already submitted applications to U.S. universities for post-graduate studies.
