Taiwan: Fulbright Post-Doctoral Research Grants in the U.S

Overview

These grants are designed to provide an opportunity for scholars in all academic fields in social sciences, humanities and the arts, who received their doctoral degrees from Taiwan or other non-English speaking countries, to conduct research and establish scholarly contacts in the U.S.

The duration of the grants ranges from a minimum of three months to a maximum of ten months. The grants may begin no earlier than August 1, 2011 and no later than June 1, 2012. They must end no later than August 31, 2012.

§ Benefits:

Type C: Full Grant
A stipend of US$2,400 per month for a period no less than three months and non longer than 10 months
direct-flight, round-trip, economy-class air ticket

Type D: Partial Grant
A fixed sum ranging from US$2,000 to US$14,400 for a period no less than three months and no longer than 10 months



§ Eligibility Criteria: All applicants must

1. be citizens and permanent residents of the Republic of China (Taiwan);
2. be affiliated full time with any organization in Taiwan for at least one year;
3. be recommended by the chief administrator, director, or president of the employing organization;
4. have received a doctoral degree from Taiwan or other non-English speaking country.

Those who are currently teaching, studying, or conducting research in the U.S., or who have returned to Taiwan from the U.S. less than three years from the time of application, or who have received a Fulbright grant within the past five years are not eligible. Please also be aware that those who have received a J-1 visa in the category of professor/research scholar within the past two years cannot be issued another J-1 visa, and are therefore not eligible.

§ Application Procedure

2. Please submit to FSE the hard copies of your completed application form and all relevant supporting documents, plus your Chinese CV, postmarked no later than October 29, 2010.

§ Selection Procedure

1. A Selection Committee of the Foundation will review all application documents and research proposals and recommend a slate for final selection by the Foundation Board.
2. All applicants will be notified by FSE of their selection/non-selection within a month after the Selection Committee meeting.
3. The grant is subject to the approval by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) and to the acceptance of the candidate's research proposal by a U.S. institution.
