Postdoc/Researcher in Wind Power Variability Modelling, Denmark

Overview

The Wind Energy Division of Risø DTU is seeking to employ a Postdoc/Researcher in the Wind Energy Systems programme (WES) for working in the research theme “Wind Power Integration and Control”. WES is a research programme in the Wind Energy Division at Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Technical University of Denmark (Risø DTU).

The Wind Energy Division has a track record of research in close co-operation with industry and the focus is on benefit to society, industry and partner research organizations. The research in WES is organized in projects which are typically externally funded and carried out in cooperation with national and international partners. The research covers areas such as system integration and control concepts for wind turbines and wind farms, electrical components, grid connection and large-scale wind energy penetration.

Job description

The Postdoc/Researcher will contribute to research projects in the areas of analysis and modelling of the variability and the predictability of wind power. This research area has high importance for planning and operation of power systems with large scale wind power production. WES is leading several projects where development of these models are key elements, and with the ambitious plans for onshore and offshore wind power development in Denmark, EU and worldwide, more projects are expected.

These research projects are typically run in partnership or close cooperation with users, which are typically transmission system operators, wind power plant developers and owners, wind energy industry, other research institutes and universities. You will be part of an international team, where the working language is English.

Qualifications

The candidate must have a PhD degree and relevant qualifications within more of the following areas:

Applied Mathematics

Statistical modeling in the time domain using time series methods like ARMA
Statistical modeling in the frequency domain using power spectral densities and coherence functions
Meso scale modeling of wind speed fields
Proven programming skills for analytical and modeling purposes, e.g. Matlab and Pascal
Assessment

In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to

scientific production and research potential
the ability to promote and utilize research results
the ability to communicate at all levels in English
experience from international research environment
the ability to contribute to development of the internal and external cooperation
the ability to be self-motivated
good problem solving skills

We offer

We offer a challenging career with the possibility to play an active role in the development of wind power in one of the largest wind energy research centres worldwide.

Terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The period of employment is up to 3 years. The place of work will be Risø DTU in Roskilde, Denmark.
