Postdoctoral Researcher at Institute for Research on Earth Evolution (IFREE)

Overview

A Position for Postdoctoral Researcher, who will join our research project “In-situ measurements of stress, elastic and hydrological properties at or near the seismogenic fault zone” of the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, which is funded until March 2014. Applicant is expected to study on understanding the physical properties and state at/near seismogenic fault zones, as well as to design in-situ measurements. We expect the applicant to be expertized in the stress or elastic property analysis using well log data.

Requirements

•Applicant is either (A) required to hold a Ph.D. degree within five years prior to the date of employment, or (B) expected to obtain a Ph.D. degree by the date of employment.

Employment System

•IFREE operates the following terminable employment system in order to carry out world-leading researches and to develop human resources based upon an appropriate and strict performance evaluation system.

Postdoctoral Researcher:One contract term is one Japanese fiscal year and the contract can be renewed twice. (The total contract term is three Japanese fiscal years.)•Apply discretionary working hour system and annual evaluation system of research results.

Salary •Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC's bylaws, taking academic career, research ability and research role in IFREE into consideration (annual salary system). Appointment level for positions will be determined by JAMSTEC after the interview based upon the discussion with the successful candidates.

JPY 4,400,000-5,200,000year
•No bonus/retirement allowance provided.
•Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.

Terms of Employment

1.Travel allowance will be provided in accordance with JAMSTEC’s bylaws.
2.The participant and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for insurance and labor insurance according to the current statutory proportion.
3.Housing lease service not available.
4.Holidays and vacations: Saturday, Sunday, public holidays, year-end and beginning of the year are holidays. There are annual vacations with pay, special vacations, and leave of absence for care and maternity leave.
5.Other: There are various kinds of subsidies available for personal interests/welfare provided by JAMSTEC’s employees’ cooperative.

1.One copy of the outline of researches/achievements to date, and the research proposal/future plan (1-2 sheets in A4 format). Please identify which Research Topic and Position (Postdoctoral Researcher) you are applying for in the document.
2.Reference (recommendation) letter written by a senior researcher, which should be sent directly to Research Support Dept. (address provided below) by POST. Applicant’s name should be written on the envelope.
3.One copy of the resume. (contactable e-mail address is essential)
4.One copy of publication list and one copy of five (or less) representative publications.

Required documents must be sent by POST and reach JAMSTEC before/on the closing date. Electronic format will NOT be accepted.
