Overview
This fellowship program is designed to provide up to 20 international arts managers with an intensive four-week arts management program for three consecutive summers. Selected managers will come to Washington, D.C. to study at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Through practica, daily classes, seminars, and projects, fellows will gain practical-based experience and skills that will be readily transferable to the management of their organizations. Arts managers with a minimum of four years experience will be selected for the program. Fellows receive roundtrip air transportation, hotel, per diem, and program materials.
What kind of experience should I have in order to be considered for the program?
Applicants must have at least four years experience working in arts management and currently be employed with an arts organization outside of the United States.
I am currently in school and have very little or no experience working in arts management. Is this program ideal for me?

I am not currently employed, should I apply for the program?
No. The program is designed for arts administrators who are currently working for an arts or cultural organization.
I am a U.S. citizen working for an arts organization in the U.S. Can I apply for the program?

I reside and work outside of the U.S., but have dual citizenship with the U.S. and another nation; am I eligible for the program?

What is the application process?
Applicants must submit a completed online application, a resume, biography, and two to three references. The application form will be provided.
All application materials must be submitted before the application deadline, December 1, 2010. The application page will be disabled after the deadline.
What are the selection criteria and process?
Candidates will receive confirmation when their applications are received. All applications will be processed and reviewed by staff of the Kennedy Center Arts Management Department. Applicants will be reviewed with regard to their qualifications, experience, and career goals. Additionally, applicants will be rated on their educational background, the relevance of these qualifications, and references. Applicants may be asked to provide additional information. Qualified candidates will be contacted for a phone interview with the Kennedy Center staff.
How is the Fellowship announced?
Fellowship recipients will be notified via e-mail and must provide confirmation of their acceptance within 10 days. The number of Fellowships granted each year is dependent upon the quality of the applicant pool; however, it is anticipated that fifteen fellowships will be awarded for the upcoming term.
What are the Fellows' obligations?
Fellows must be available for the duration of the program. Fellows are required to sign and return the Kennedy Center Acceptance Agreement and abide by the Kennedy Center Personnel Policy and Procedures Manual. Fellows must sign and return US tax forms in a timely fashion to ensure receipt of per diem. They are also required to submit a final evaluation at the end of each program term.
How will I receive my Visa for the program?
The Kennedy Center works with a Washington, DC based Visa agent. Fellows are asked to return information and forms requested by International Arts and Artists in a timely manner to ensure receipt of Visa prior to the program.
Do I have to pay the fees required to receive the Visa?
The Kennedy Center will cover charges necessary to obtain your Visa. This includes fees paid to the consulate, travel necessary to obtain your visa, and materials needed to obtain the visa. In situations where Fellows must pay the local Consulate office directly, the Kennedy Center will reimburse you for those charges before the end of the program term. A receipt or proper documentation is necessary for reimbursement.
Do I have to pay for my air transportation?
No, the Kennedy Center is responsible for your travel to and from Washington, DC.
What are the stipend /per diem for participants?
Fellows receive the per diem (daily allowance) for Meals and Incidental Expenses as determined by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) rate.
Do I have to commit to the full three-terms of the programs?
Yes. The goal of the program is to give each Fellow the opportunity to develop professionally as they are developing and progressing within their organizations. While we understand that unexpected situations can arise, Fellows are expected to participate for the three-year duration of the program.
