Overview
This research is funded by an ERC starting grant awarded to Dr Herma Cuppen. The aim of the project is to obtain an understanding of the mobility in molecular layers at the molecular level using a combination of simulation techniques: Molecular Dynamics and several Monte Carlo techniques. Special emphasis will be on the influence of the chosen potential on the kinetics of the system. You will work in collaboration with several PhD students.
Requirements
You have a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline, and a strong motivation for scientific research. You should have a background in molecular modelling, theoretical chemistry or materials science. Excellent social skills and a good command of spoken and written English are essential.
Organization
The Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM) at Radboud University of Nijmegen is a highly interdisciplinary research institute and encompasses theoretical and experimental groups with both physics and chemistry backgrounds. The institute boasts a unique combination of state-of-the-art experimental facilities, including the High Field Magnet Laboratory, the NMR Large-Scale Facility for Advanced Materials, the FOM Centre for Computational Materials Sciences and the Scanning Probe Microscopy facility in IMM’s NanoLab. A Free Electron Laser is currently under construction.
You will be working with the theoretical chemistry group. The general research theme of this group is the theoretical and computational study of molecular properties, interactions between molecules, and (photo)chemical processes by quantum mechanical methods, as well as the development of new methods, algorithms, and computer programs. A separate research line focuses on the interaction between molecules in solid molecular materials and the kinetics within these materials using molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo techniques.
