Overview
A two-year Postdoc position in organic chemistry and chemical biology under the supervision of Associate Professor Christian A. Olsen is available from 1 November 2010 at the Department of Chemistry, DTU.
Project description
The position is part of a program in the lab called: Gene Regulation with Small Molecule Epigenetic Modulators. The work will be focused on the development of novel, robust synthetic methods for efficient, large-scale total synthesis of the non-ribosomal natural product peptide, azumamide E, as well as simplified readily diversifiable analogs for enzymological investigations. With these results as a foundation, the project will include determination of the three-dimensional solution-phase structures of selected compounds using NMR spectroscopy, and evaluation of their interactions with histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzymes by molecular docking into enzyme active sites. After cycles of design, evaluation, and optimization aimed towards isoform- and class-selective candidates, selected compounds will undergo more rigorous testing in cell-based assays.
Qualifications
The successful candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in organic synthetic chemistry, preferably related to biologically active compounds. Excellent communication skills, an interest in chemistry at the interface with biology and medicine, as well as high-impact publications within the field are expected.
We offer
We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare. We strive for academic excellence, collegial respect and freedom tempered by responsibility. The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is a leading technical university in northern Europe and benchmarks with the best universities in the world.
Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 2 years.
Further information
Further questions about the projects should be directed to Christian A. Olsen, phone: (+45) 4525 2105.
