Overview
The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a grant offered by the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States.
Every year, it allows PhD students enrolled in American universities to conduct research in a French laboratory (public or private) for a 4 to 10 month period of time.
This program has two main goals :
1. To allow American students to benefit from an experience in one of the best laboratories in France
2. To develop scientific cooperation between France and the United States.
Chateaubriand recipients receive:
- Monthly allowance (1400 euros)
- Travel support
- Health insurance abroad
The research should be performed in a French university, a school of engineering, a national laboratory or a private enterprise. In some cases, the fellowship can be co-sponsored by the interested French institution or company.
No particular level of French is required; it is at the host institution’s discretion. Courses of French can be offered on site.
Factors considered in an evaluation of a candidate's application:
-List of publications and academic transcripts
-Quality and relevance of proposed research project
-Priority will be given to research projects which are part of a French-American collaboration Letters of recommendation
-Letter of invitation from the French laboratory with description of existing or planed collaboration between the home and host laboratories.
ELIGIBILITY
- Candidates must be currently working on their Ph.D.
- Candidates must receive their Ph.D. from an American university.
- Candidates must obtain a letter of invitation from a French laboratory before applying.
- The internship in France must start between September 1st, 2011 and March 1st, 2012.
