Overview
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) of Portugal is pleased to announce the launch of the WELCOME II Programme, co-funded by the Marie Curie Action COFUND, under the European Commission’s 7th Research Framework Programme, and targeting the mobility of European researchers in Third Countries to join institutions in Portugal. The WELCOME II Programme will fund post-doc researchers residing and carrying out research in Third Countries for at least the last 3 years, to be integrated in Portuguese institutions (the applicant cannot have spent more than 6 months in Europe after the period of at least 3 years in Third Countries).
The programme targets the career development of Early Post-Docs (fellow A) and Experienced Post-Docs, with ve or more years of experience after PhD (fellow B).
Researchers in the Programme will sign 3-year employment contracts with their host institutions in order to carry out research programmes of their choice. The language of the Programme is English. Application procedures consider that the application is one joint venture of the pair fellow/host institution.
Programme Budget: ~€12.500.000.
Bene ciaries of the programme are Marie Curie Fellows.
Total number of fellows expected to be funded: 54.
Evaluations will be carried out by international evaluation panels.
Research Areas
Exact, natural and health sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities, hence including all scienti c topics in a broad perspective.
Who should apply?
Post-Docs residing in Third Countries for the last three years having the nationality of a EU Member State or FP7 Associated Country:
EU Member-States
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom.
FP7 Associated Countries
Croatia, Rep. Macedonia, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Third Countries
All the countries that are neither EU Member-States or Countries Associated to FP7.
Which host institutions are eligible?
All the Portuguese R&D Institutions in all areas of research, duly recognized by FCT, that will employ the bene ciary for the duration of the project; either a university, a research institute or a company, including SMEs with research capacity, located in Portugal.

Fellow A €61.000 / year
Fellow B €68.745 / year
