Clinician Educator Fellowship at University of California

Overview

The UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) is pleased to offer clinician educator fellowship positions in general internal medicine for July. Fellowship positions may be structured as one or two year programs. These positions are designed to prepare fellows for faculty careers as clinician-educators in general internal medicine by expanding skills in clinical medicine, clinical teaching, clinical scholarship and medical education. Each fellow will spend approximately 40% time in direct clinical care at one of the DGIM ambulatory sites at UCSF/Mount Zion or UCSF/Parnassus. Mentoring of clinical work will be provided by the Program Director and other experienced DGIM faculty. An additional 10-20% time will be spent in teaching and supervising residents and students in ambulatory care at UCSF/Mount Zion and UCSF/Parnassus. Formal training, mentorship and feedback in ambulatory teaching will also be provided by DGIM faculty.

The fellows' remaining effort will be directed to clinical scholarship and development of an area of expertise in general internal medicine and primary care. Fellows will take the UCSF Training in Clinical Research (TICR) Program and will be expected to complete a scholarly project. Additional methodological training is available. Fellows will also have the opportunity to develop additional clinical expertise in a specific area of clinical medicine. Recent prior fellows have developed areas of expertise and scholarship in medical education, clinical geriatrics, hepatology, behavioral medicine and medical informatics. Other potential areas of expertise and scholarship might include women's health, office orthopedics, dermatology, preventive medicine, clinical nutrition, etc. Working with DGIM faculty with similar interests, each fellow will be able to design an individualized curriculum to meet these goals. Fellows will be expected to present their scholarly work at local and national meetings and to publish at least one review article or book chapter on their area of expertise.

The deadline for applications is November 30, 2010. Fellows begin July 1, 2011.
