University of Aizu Special Postdoctoral Researchers in Computer Science and Engineering

Overview

The University of Aizu offers a number of special postdoctoral fellowships for talented young scholars for doing collaborative and independent research in one of several strategic research themes. The post is fixed term for a period of 18 months starting from within a period of June-October 2011.

Eligibility: In principle, candidates must have acquired or expect to acquire a doctoral degree on or after April 1, 2005.

Research fields:High-performance Computing, Internet Computing, Software Engineering, and Cloud Computing that relate to the strategic research being conducted at the University of Aizu.

1. High-Performance Computing

Applicants should have PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent, with knowledge of numerical analysis and experience in parallel computing, multicore and GPU programming.

Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities or Duties: You will be expected to undertake research in the development, analysis, and porting of the numerical algorithms for solving fundamental matrix-formulated problems in linear algebra and graph theory and implementation of these algorithms on different highly-parallel platforms (GPU, multicore,...). In addition to implementing and porting, the performance analyzing and optimizing the behavior of the applications and kernels would be required.

2. Internet Computing

Applicants should have PhD in Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent, with knowledge on trends of future internet, protocols/algorithms of computer networks, ubiquitous computing/networks, sensors networks, context-aware algorithms/systems/services, smart home/office, and experience in embedded systems development and distributed/network programming.

Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities or Duties: The applicants will be expected to undertake research in the development, analysis, and porting of the protocols/algorithms for solving network problems in Internet of Things (IoT). Besides, it is required to develop real systems based on these protocols/algorithms on different platforms, such as the current internet, cloud computing platform, wireless platforms. In addition to implementing and porting, the performance analyzing and optimizing the behavior of the protocols/algorithms and their attractive applications would be required.

3. Software Engineering

Applicants should have PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent, with knowledge of portal and mobility application development, user-centric software design concepts, security engineering, cloud computing.

Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities or Duties: You will be expected to undertake research in the development and analysis of the multi-purposed Distributed Heterogeneous Environment that can easily be adapted to the different application areas. This adaptation should be implemented via integration of heterogeneous program and information components designed by different groups of developers. In addition, investigations should also be oriented to design patterns and programming tools based on the multimedia representation of algorithms and large information arrays.

4. Cloud Computing

Applicants should have PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent, with knowledge of computer network, SOA, XML and XSLT, sensor network, java programming.

Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities or Duties: You will be expected to undertake research in the development, analysis, and porting of the XML-based message mediation using content-aware networking for realizing loosely coupled integration of cloud services, contents, and sensor data. In addition to implementing and porting, the performance analyzing and optimizing XML-routing with processing would be required.

For all positions you will also be expected to:

-Maintain a Web Site for the project;

-Publish the results of your research in international journals or refereed conference proceedings;

-Present the results of your research at international and domestic meetings;

-Present lectures in the Graduate School as appropriate on topics relating to the project.

Required Documents

-CV

-Publication List

-Research Plan

-Recommendation Letter from Research Advisor

All documents should be submitted electronically to

spdr2011@u-aizu.ac.jp

All communications should be directed to the same address as above.

Salary, Travel costs and Housing Monthly salary will be approximately 270,000yen before tax. Travel costs to Aizu-Wakamatsu and for return to your home country shall be paid by the University. Housing is arranged by the university. However, the university does not cover the rent, telephone charge, electricity, fuel and water, and other miscellaneous expenses.
