Netherlands: 2 Junior Researchers for PhD positions on Renaissance Humanism and the History of Philosophy

Overview

The Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, seeks 2 junior researchers for the research programme “Humanists as Philosophers: The Place of Renaissance Humanism in the History of Thought”, led by Professor Lodi Nauta and funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).

The text of the programme can be obtained by sending an email to Mrs Fré Moorrees (F.C.Moorrees@rug.nl). It consists of 6 well-delineated research projects. The applicant can work on one of these projects but can also submit his/her own research proposal as long as it ties in with the main objectives of the programme.

Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen is the second-oldest university in the Netherlands. Its Faculty of Philosophy has an excellent reputation both in teaching and research, and occupies a top position in national rankings. It offers a lively and friendly intellectual community of about 45 teachers and researchers, and ca. 350 full-time students. A number of researchers come from abroad. The History of Philosophy department covers the entire history of philosophy from classical Antiquity to contemporary trends. The University Library in Groningen is a good research library, while the other main university libraries in the Netherlands are reachable in 2-3 hours by train.
