Overview
As an outstanding junior researcher at The Centre for the History of Philosophy and Science (www.ru.nl/philosophy/chps/) of the Faculty of Philosophy you will be expected to write a doctoral dissertation and participate in the Centre's activities. Other duties may involve teaching at the Faculty of Philosophy.
Eligibility Requirements
You have an MA (or equivalent) in the history of philosophy or science, and possess the language skills necessary to study the primary sources in the original language and to read the relevant secondary literature. Knowledge of Dutch is no prerequisite. Your dissertation should be in the field of the history of philosophy and science.
Background of the Organization
The Faculty of Philosophy's activities include teaching and research in all domains of philosophy. It currently has 300 full-time students and 55 teachers and researchers. The Centre for the History of Philosophy and Science constitutes the Faculty’s history of philosophy section. It is renowned for its combination of the history of philosophy and the history of science. As the titles of the journal Early Science and Medicine and of the Medieval and Early Modern Science series (both edited by the Centre) indicate, the focus of research at the Centre is on the period 1200-1800 (the teaching activities, however, cover the entire history of philosophy and science from antiquity to the present).
