UK: KESS Scholarships at Aberystwyth University - Department of Sport and Exercise Science

Overview

2 PhD 3-years projects, 2 MPhil 1-year projects

Aberystwyth University is seeking to recruit 4 students to work on the projects below:

3-year PhD project entitled: Effects of bovine colostrum supplementation on immune and gut responses to exercise (reference number AU Maxi 10007)

3-year PhD project entitled: The role of Vitamin D and Exercise in the treatment of Diabetes (reference number AU Maxi 10018)

1-year MPhil project entitled: Efficacy of clinic based versus community based postural stability exercise classes in promoting health in older adults (reference number AU Maxi 10008)

1-year MPhil project entitled: Bioactive functional foods, exercise, gut damage and repair (reference number AU Maxi 10019)

Entry criteria: The prospective applicants should have a minimum of a 1st or good 2:1 in a relevant degree, and be available to take up the studentship on 1 July 2010. The projects are part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) through the European Union's Convergence programme administered by the Welsh Assembly Government. KESS scholarships are collaborative awards with external partners. (Applicants need only apply, they do not need to search for partners).

Send Professor David Lavallee by the 16th of April (address below): a completed KESS application form (put the reference number in the top right hand box of the application form), two references, an up to date CV and a covering letter, in which you expand on the relevant contents in your CV and wider experience, and why you think you are a good candidate. KESS application forms are available at http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/sport-exercise/courses/. We anticipate interviews will be held in late April.


Eligible Candidates

To be eligible to apply for a KESS award, you must be resident, upon application, in the Convergence Area of Wales and you must be able to take paid employment in the Convergence area on completion of the scholarship. The Convergence Area means the following counties of Wales:

Isle of Anglesey; Gwynedd; Conwy; Denbighshire; Ceredigion; Camarthshire; Pembrokeshire; Swansea; Neath Port Talbot; Bridgend; Rhondda Cynon Taff; Caerphilly; and Torfaen
