Overview
The Karen Johnson Freeze Fellowship Fund is an initiative of the Foundation for the History of Technology (SHT) and the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT) to encourage research in the field of history of technology by early career scholars in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe; in particular in Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, the Ukraine, and Turkey.
The fund is established in memory of Karen Johnson Freeze. Through her efforts, the history of technology has begun to develop as a field in Central and Eastern Europe. Annually two grants of €2,000, -- will be awarded to early career scholars from Central, Eastern, or Southeastern Europe.
The first two Karen Johnson Freeze Fellows will be announced at the opening reception of the 4th Tensions of Europe / closing Inventing Europe conference in Sofia (June 17-20, 2010).
For next academic or calendar year, the Bulgarian Centre of Excellence Dialogue Europe (Institute for Doctoral and Postdoctoral Research) of Sofia University awards an additional (third) Karen Johnson Freeze Fellowship. This extra Fellowship encompasses a grant of €2,000.-- plus academic and logistic support for a research project (of 8-10 weeks) on a topic relevant to the history of technology, either in Bulgaria or abroad (see conditions for application below).
What are the conditions?
The fellowship of €2,000, -- will be administered by the Centre of Excellence Dialogue Europe in cooperation with the Foundation for the History of Technology.
Eligible candidates
1. Foreign early career scholars in the field of history of technology (preferably from Central, Southeastern, or Eastern Europe), who aspire to work on a research project in Bulgaria.
2. Bulgarian early career scholars in the field of history of technology, who aspire to work on a research project abroad.
How to apply?
Candidates can send an application (containing a curriculum and a project proposal) by regular mail or e-mail to the address below.
Application deadline
The application deadline is May 25, 2010. Applications arriving after that date will not be considered.
