Sweden: Postdoctoral Position in Computational Mechanics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Overview

A postdoctoral position (one year) is available at the Division of Structural Design and Bridges. The project is sponsored by Schlumberger Cambridge Research Center (SCR), and will be performed in close collaboration with SCR.

Schlumberger is the world's leading supplier of technology, integrated project management and information solutions to customers working in the oil and gas industry worldwide. The company employs approximately 77,000 people representing over 140 nationalities and working in more than 80 countries. SCR is a science and engineering research laboratory, located in Cambridge, UK, that carries out fundamental and applied research developing new technologies for the oil field.

The purpose of the project is to develop mechanical numerical models to simulate the drilling process. The objective is to understand the effect of particular drilling tools to the governing mechanisms of the drilling process, and to put this to practical use in devising new methods for designing, monitoring and controlling such processes.

Qualifications

The candidate has a recent PhD in computational solid mechanics or mathematics applied to mechanics. Experience in finite element method, numerical methods in general and programming is an advantage. Good communication and writing in English are essential, but knowledge of Swedish is not necessary.
