Climate Adaptation Flagship: research areas for Flagship Collaboration Fund postgraduate scholarships 2010-11

Overview

The Climate Adaptation Flagship invites applications for PhD scholarships commencing in early 2011

Flagship Collaboration Fund

The Flagship Collaboration Fund was established to facilitate the involvement of the broader Australian research community in addressing the ambitious goals of the National Research Flagships.

The Flagship Collaboration Fund offers top-up and full scholarships – students should clearly indicate which they are applying for. International students may apply but must be able to show evidence of enrolment in an Australian university.

Climate Adaptation Flagship priorities

The Climate Adaptation Flagship will give preference to the following priority areas but will accept other proposals in line with its wider portfolio (Climate Adaptation Flagship overview) for postgraduate scholarships commencing in early 2011:

Priority area

Examining the relationships between climate change beliefs, attitudes and behaviours, and individual and collective social representations of climate change

Impact of climate change on flood estimation

Towards adaptive, low-carbon cities: linking urban institutional and planning analysis to urban metabolism

Micro-refugia and climate change: assessing the role of environmental heterogeneity and climatic events within production forestry landscapes

Investigation of genotypes of wheat for interactions of CO2, crop development, grain/biomass, specific leaf nitrogen with climate drivers such as drought, frost or heat

Selection criteria

The main selection criteria for scholarships will be the relevance of the proposed work to the needs of the Flagship and the quality of the student.

When applying for a scholarship, students should indicate to which of the priority areas their proposed research is relevant.

If a student’s research is not directly relevant to any of these areas, their application must clearly state how it is aligned with the work of the Flagship.

Closing date

Applications close at 11.59 pm on 30 November 2010.
