Erasmus Mundus EuroPhilosophie Scholarship: “German and French Philosophy in the European Context”

Overview

The Master Mundus Program “German and French Philosophy in the European Context” (EuroPhilosophie) offers to the best students from around the world a specialized advanced course of study for two years in the fields of German and French philosophy and their interaction within the European cultural context.

The three thematic axes of the Master Mundus EuroPhilosophie are:

1.Classical German philosophy: Kant and German Idealism (Fichte, Schelling, Hegel) Marx, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche
2.Contemporary French philosophy: Biran, Bergson, Foucault, Deleuze
3.German and French phenomenology.

European Universities in the Consortium

Université de Toulouse 2 Le Mirail, France, courses in French - coordinating university
Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, courses in German
Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, courses in French
University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg, courses in French and German
Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, Germany, courses in German
Charles University Prague, Czech Republic, courses in French and German
University of Wuppertal, Germany, courses in German

Each year the Master EuroPhilosophie selects:

Approximately ten students 
who are not European Union citizens and who have not spent more than 12 months in the EU are offered an annual scholarship of 20, 800 euro (Erasmus Mundus A) to study at three universities in the EuroPhilosophie Consortium. (Registration fees for students receiving a scholarship amounts to 2400 euro per semester).


Approximately 8 citizens of EU or non-citizens of the European Union who have spent more than 12 months in European Union are offered an annual scholarship of 9000 euro (Erasmus Mundus B) to study at three universities in the EuroPhilosophie Consortium. (Registration fees for students receiving a scholarship amounts to 750 euro per semester).

The program also admits non-European and European students without awarding a scholarship from the Erasmus Mundus European Commission. The cost of participation for non-European students is the same as those from group A, and European students is the same as those from group B.


Selection and Grants for Scholars

Erasmus Mundus EuroPhilosophie also selects each year: 3-4 
visiting scholars who are not citizens of the European Union, and 2-3 visiting scholars from the European Union are offered a grant of 14,400 euro to teach for three months in one of 10 European universities within the Consortium (partners + associates).

Application conditions

Students from the European Union and non-European Union students applying to the EuroPhilosophie program will have to:

- have a qualification of a level equivalent to at least three years of study after the completion of secondary schooling (judged equivalent to 180 ECTS) or a diploma equivalent to a “licence” (Bachelor) of the LMD system.
- have followed a university course in philosophy or the history of philosophy
- have a spoken and written command of German and / or French and commit to take an intensive language course offered by the Master EuroPhilosophie in one of the two languages in case they only have spoken and written command of either German or French
- commit to take the two years of the European course
