KAAD and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Scholarship Program, Thailand

Overview

The KAAD, by its German name in full known as Katholischer Akademischer Auslander-Dienst (the Catholic Academic Support Service for Foreign Students, Germany) has, since long, provided scholarships for young professionals in need of such support from countries around the world.

Based on the agreement between the KAAD and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), the two organizations jointly provide scholarship support for qualified applicants from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Vietnam, to pursue master’s or doctoral degree program studies at the AIT. Interested persons may apply to any Fields of Study offered by the AIT. In exceptional cases, applicants from Thailand may be considered.

KAAD and AIT will co-sponsor the scholarship for successful applicants. The costs covered by the KAAD-AIT scholarship include those for tuition and fees, a monthly bursary and rental of accommodation on campus at AIT standard rates. In accordance with the regular duration of the postgraduate study programs, a master’s degree program scholarship is granted for a period of four (4) semesters (equal to 22 months), and a doctoral degree program scholarship is granted for a period of six (6) semesters (equal to 3 years).

Service Clause

KAAD and AIT support young academics mainly to assist their home countries in their efforts to improve the educational standard and to uplift the quality of life of the population-at-large. It, therefore, constitutes part of the agreement that upon completion of their studies, the KAAD-AIT scholarship recipients must return to their home countries and render their professional services, preferably to the endorsing organization. The nature and scope of this service-in-return of the KAAD-AIT scholarship award will be agreed upon by the scholarship recipients and their endorsing institutions, according to their own rules and regulations.

KAAD will include a service clause in its document to oblige the KAAD-AIT scholarship recipient to return to her or his home country right after graduation. In the event that a KAAD-AIT scholarship recipient does not honor her or his obligation under the said clause, he or she must repay to the KAAD the total cost of KAAD support.
