A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with a good honours degree or masters by research degree in microbiology or a related discipline, to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in microbiology. The scholarship will provide a stipend of $20,000 per annum (tax exempt). A tuition fees scholarship will also be provided by the Faculty to the successful candidate. The scholarship may be renewed for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress. Applicants can be from any country but must not be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Applicants are expected to contact a suitable supervisor in the Discipline of Microbiology, School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences, and develop a research plan in a microbiology area in line with the interests of the supervisor (see http://www.mmb.usyd.edu.au/research/). This should be submitted along with a curriculum vitae, an original or certified copy of the final academic transcript and testamur (graduation certificate) indicating that suitable tertiary study has been completed (a certified English translation must be provided for all documents not issued in English), and the names and contact details of two referees. Evidence of English language proficiency must be provided through either completion of an undergraduate degree in English or through suitable English language test scores (IELTS 7 or more; section minimum 6).
