UK: British Chevening scholarships for future Singaporean leaders 2010-2011

Overview

We are proud to be able to offer Singaporeans the prestigious Chevening Scholarships. These are unbonded scholarships for one year post-graduate courses in any discipline at any UK university. The British Government funds the Chevening scholarships although they can also be part-funded by other sources.

To become a Chevening Scholar you must:

- Hold at least an upper second class honours degree.
- Not have studied for a degree at UK University before.
- Be willing to return to Singapore on completion of your studies.
- Have already embarked on your chosen career path.
- Be a leader, or potential future leader, in your particular areas of interest.

Applications to study in the 2010-2011 academic year are now open. Applications must be made via the e-Chevening website(https://www.chevening.fco.gov.uk/CheveningApplications/CA_Start.aspx) . The closing date for applications is the 18th of January 2010.


Criteria for applicants

- Scholarships are open to citizens of Singapore only. Citizens of other nations should contact the British Council in their home country.
- Preferably, you should not have previously studied in the UK.
- You should have a good honours degree of at least upper second or the equivalent.
- You should have a minimum of two years working experience preferably with managerial, policy influencing or decision-making responsibilities.
- You should be a professional in your early to mid-career.
- You should be committed to returning to Singapore and contributing to Singapore's socio-economic development by implementing new skills and knowledge acquired in the UK.
- You should be able to show at interview that you possess the personal qualities to benefit from the scholarship and in turn use it to succeed in your chosen career.

The Chevening Fellowship Programme

The FCO also runs Chevening Fellowship Programmes. These are three-month study programmes designed as training development opportunities for mid-career professionals.
