Overview
The Faculty of Engineering is offering a number of James Watt Research Scholarships to support PhD studies in the Engineering Graduate School at the University of Glasgow. These prestigious scholarships will be available, on a limited basis, to highly qualified applicants of any nationality who hold a first class honours degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject.
The maximum level of support available would provide the student with a stipend at the Research Council recommended level (£13,290 per annum in 2009/10) and cover tuition fees at the home/EU rate. For applicants liable to tuition fees at the international rate, it is anticipated that scholarship awards would normally provide partial support towards the student's study to supplement other awards (for example, SORSAS).
Requirements
Applicants should provide a covering letter, stating their case for consideration of a James Watt Research Scholarship award, identifying their intended area of research commensurate with current research activities and facilities in the Faculty of Engineering, providing details of other funding which has been secured, or applied for, and stating whether they are liable for fees at the home/EU or international rate. In addition, applicants should include a curriculum vitae and a transcript of their studies, and arrange for 2 references to be submitted. Applications for scholarships with the intention of commencing study at the beginning of the 2010/11 academic session should be submitted by 1 February 2010. Applications or enquiries should be addressed to:
