Overview
The Department of Information Science at Loughborough University is offering a number of PhD research studentships for three years commencing 1st December 2009. These awards, which are available for UK/EU applicants (due to funding restrictions), will be offered on a fully-funded basis. The UK/EU university tuition fee will be paid and recipients will also receive a tax-free stipend at the EPSRC standard rate (£13290 in 2009/10). It is expected that applicants will have either a first class honours or a good upper second class degree in a subject relevant to their research proposal.
The Department of Information Science, which has a thriving PhD community, will consider applications from all information science subject areas. However, it is particularly interested in receiving applications in the following areas:
• A legal and ethical study of the role of reproduction rights organisations
• Evaluation of the risks and benefits of the Police National Database
• Knowledge management in the SME sector
• The changing role of editors and the implications of these changes on the scientific and scholarly communication system
• Large scale organisation and retrieval issues associated with making available information from the human genome sequence to individuals and the general public
Deadline for submission of full application (including research proposal): Friday 13th November 2009 with interviews taking place on Monday 23rd November 2009.
