USA: 2010-2011 Atlas Corps Fellowship Program for nonprofit/NGO/social sector

Atlas Service Corps, Inc. (Atlas Corps) is an international nonprofit organization that is seeking to identify the best rising leaders in the nonprofit sector around the world to participate in a one-year overseas fellowship program.

Apply to become an Atlas Corps Fellow and join a growing international network of nonprofit leaders! Atlas Service Corps is now accepting applications for the Spring 2010-2011 fellowship program. Please read the following information carefully to learn about eligibility and how to apply.

All candidates MUST:

Have 3 or more years of relevant experience in the nonprofit/NGO/social sector.
Have a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Speak, read and write fluent English. If volunteering in Colombia, you must also speak, read and write an outstanding level of Spanish.
Be applying to volunteer in a country other than where you are from.
Be committed to your country and return home after the one-year fellowship.


Application Process

1. Candidates must complete the short online "Eligibility Survey" found at www.atlascorps.org/start-here.html.

2. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will be able to fill out the online application form and download the supplemental application form with the required essay questions and letter of recommendation instructions. For assistance regarding the Fellowship to the United States, please email apply@atlascorps.org. For assistance with the Fellowship to Bogota, please email applybogota@atlascorps.org.

3. Completed applications, including recommendations, must be submitted by November 10 for the Spring program and April 1 for the Fall program

4. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee including Atlas Corps staff, citizen sector, government, and business leaders from multiple countries. Phone interviews and English writing tests will be conducted with semi-finalists. Two finalists will be chosen for each fellowship position.

5. Colombian and U.S. Host organizations will conduct Skype video interviews with selected finalists. Host organizations will make their final recommendations to Atlas Corps, and Atlas Corps will notify the selected candidates by mid-December for the Spring Fellowship and June for the Fall Fellowship.

6. The selected candidates will go to the U.S. Embassy or their local Colombian Consulate in their respective countries in mid to late June for their J-1 / Special visa interviews. Once a candidate receives his/her visa, he or she will become an Atlas Corps Fellow!

7. The fellowship begins with orientation and training in March or September. The $500 Fellow deposit is due on the first day of Fellow orientation.

The deadline to apply for the Spring program is November 10. The deadline to apply for the Fall program is April 1.
