Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute
University of Wollongong (UOW) is a prestigious teaching and research University. The Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI) is a collaborative venture of UOW and the South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Area Health Service (SESIAHS). Its goal is to further develop health and medical research undertaken in the Illawarra, with a focus on collaboration across the academic and clinical research contexts. IHMRI is seeking a Research Fellow and two PhD students that will focus on projects dealing with lipid metabolism and Alzheimer’s disease under the supervision of ARC Future Fellow, Professor Brett Garner.
This fixed-term (2 year) position involves genetic and pharmacological manipulation of lipid homeostasis in both cell culture and in vivo systems, to assess the impact this has on pathological pathways that contribute to Alzheimer’s disease. To succeed, you will have a PhD in a relevant biomedical field, substantial molecular biology experience and a proven capacity to conduct high quality research as demonstrated by a strong publication record. Effective communication, organisational and academic writing skills are required and a background in lipid metabolism or an area of neuroscience would be highly regarded. 2 Australian Postgraduate Award Scholarships Available
Two Australian Postgraduate Award Scholarships are also available to suitable PhD candidates to work in this research area. Applicants must have attained a first or upper second class honours degree in a relevant biomedical field. Sound communication, organisational and academic writing skills are required and a background in lipid metabolism or an area of neuroscience would be highly regarded.
