Overview
The GERMAN-CANADIAN STUDIES RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP (M.A.) is awarded on an annual basis for the most promising Master’s thesis project on any aspect in the field of German-Canadian Studies.
This $9,000.00 scholarship is awarded by the Spletzer Family Foundation Inc. to foster research of the highest quality at the Master’s level into the past and present experiences of German-speaking immigrants and their descendants in Canada, as well as into history and nature of relations and exchanges between Germany and Canada.
Eligibility (international):
1. Students who are enrolled in an M.A. program at a Canadian university in such disciplines as (but not limited to) history, linguistics, literature, sociology, geography, political science, economics, or cultural anthropology, AND are writing a thesis (or equivalent) on a German-Canadian topic.
2. Students enrolled at a university outside of Canada who have completed their first degree or equivalent to the Bachelor of Arts, are working towards a higher degree, AND are writing a thesis (or equivalent) on a German-Canadian topic. To qualify, students must plan to carry out substantial parts of their research in Canada and must be associated with a faculty member of a Canadian university for the duration of their stay.

Selection will be made by an interdisciplinary committee of university professors who will evaluate the merit of the proposal and its potential to broaden our knowledge of the German-Canadian experience or German-Canadian relations, the candidate’s research background in related areas, the likelihood that the project can be completed within the proposed budget, and the candidate’s willingness to share his/her findings with the community in public lectures and in other forms.
