Overview
The emphasis of the ASCN programme is on the promotion of individuals. Therefore, promising researchers in social sciences and humanities originating from South Caucasus have the opportunity to be granted a scholarship in order to strengthen their research capacities and extent their network in their academic field.
Selection Criteria for all ASCN grants and scholarships
• field of study: social sciences and humanities
• outstanding academic qualifications
• good German language, French language and/or English language skills
In the year 2010 the priority is given to Georgian citizens; grants will be open to Armenian and Azerbaijani citizens later on.
Short-term grants
Each year a limited number of short-term grants (one week to one month) to Switzerland are available for young researchers from the South Caucasus. These grants offer scholars (PhD. candidates and higher) from the region the following possibilities:
- participation to a conference in Switzerland
- exchange with Swiss scholars and visit of Swiss academic institutions with the goal to initiate cooperation
- exchange on specific research projects
- work on an ongoing (PhD.) project and benefit from research infrastructure in Switzerland
These grants offer grantees the opportunity to extend their academic network, work in state of the art research infrastructure and meet scholars in similar fields of expertise. For the year 2010, grants are restricted to Georgian citizens. The grants are open to researchers from all Georgian institutions of higher education in the fields of humanities and social sciences. Applications can be made any time during the year.

MAS in European Integration
The ASCN Programme offers to 4 students from South Caucasus the opportunity to follow an MAS (Master of Advanced Studies) in European Integration at the University of Basel. It is a one-year programme (2 semesters) beginning in September 2010. Courses are taught in English and German. Applications are open for students from Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The grant covers tuition fees, travel costs as well as living costs and accommodation for an amount of 25,000 EUR. The application deadline is 30 April 2010. You will find all the necessary information related to the MAS and the grant in the below documents.
