Australia: 2010 AAR Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Dementia

Overview

The AAR Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Dementia is offered as a PhD scholarship to a student undertaking a research PhD in an area relevant to an aspect of dementia. One scholarship will be awarded in 2010 for research commencing in 2011.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the AAR Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Dementia the applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia. Applicants who have been resident in Australia for at least two years and have evidence of eligibility and application for permanent residency may also be eligible for the AAR Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Dementia.

Please note that though the AAR conditions state that the scholarship may be held by full-time or part-time students, the University of Sydney will only allow a part-time student to hold a scholarship if they have an ongoing medical condition which prevents full-time enrolment or they have heavy carer commitments which prevent full-time enrolment.


Amount awarded:

$30,000 per annum (tax-exempt) for up to three years. The duration of an award will be reduced by any periods of study undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the award.

Application guide:

Applications for this scholarship must be submitted via the University of Sydney Research Office.

Submission Requirements

Hard copy: 1 single-sided original and 1 copy of the application form and all attachments. The application form must be signed by the applicant, proposed supervisor and head of department prior to submission to the Research Office. The Director of the Research Office will sign the application as the Head of Administering Institution/Nominee in Section G.

Electronic copy: Email the electronic copy of your application form (in Word format) to ro.scholarships@sydney.edu.au. The file name must be in the following format: “Surname.doc”. The electronic copy doesn’t require signatures.


Hard copy applications must be submitted to Ms Lara Fourro, Scholarships Officer, Research Scholarships team, Research Office, Jane Foss Russell Building, The University of Sydney, NSW 2006. (Phone: 8627 8115, Email:

ro.scholarships@sydney.edu.au) The Research Office will organize for the Director of the Research Office to sign your application and will then post and email your completed application to AAR.

Section A: Applicant Information

Future enrolment – please note that you can only request a full 3 years of funding if you will be commencing your PhD in Semester one 2011. If you have commenced your PhD prior to 2011 you must apply for a reduced tenure. For example, if you will have been enrolled for one full-time year of your PhD during 2010 you can only apply for 2 years of scholarship funding.

Attachments

You must attach the following documents to the hard copies of your application:

- Your CV
- A certified copy of your academic transcript(s) with institutional key to grading (usually on the back of the original transcript)
- A certified copy of your proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency
Ethics approval letter (if available)
- 1 page CV of your proposed supervisor
- Recommendation letter from proposed supervisor. Please note that this must be submitted in a sealed envelope and your proposed supervisor must also email the letter directly to aar@alzheimers.org.au. The maximum length of the letter is 2 pages.
