ERASMUS MUNDUS Master Course (EMCC) in Ecohydrology - Scholarships In Portugal

Overview

The ERASMUS MUNDUS Master Course (EMCC) in Ecohydrology (www.ecohyd.org) is a unique international master course focusing on a new vision for aquatic ecosystems restoration and long-term sustainability. The Ecohydrology approach was developed and have been refined within the International Hydrologic Program (IHP) of UNESCO. Actually its importance is recognized by the 193 counties composing the UNESCO General Conference, being “Ecohydrology for Sustainability” one of the five major themes of the Phase VII of the IHP-UNESCO.

The Ecohydrology EMMSc is supported by a consortium build on highly experienced Higher Education Institution (HEI) in this field, as the UNESCO Institute for Water Education (Delft, Netherlands), the University of Lodz (Poland), the University of Algarve (Portugal), the Christian Albrecht University of Kiel (Germany) and the National University of La Plata (Argentina). Several institutions, as Research and UNESCO Centers, from Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia are associating to this course, contributing with advanced study courses and promoting students exchange.

EMMC Scholarships

Scholarship ProgrammeStudents from all world countries are welcome to apply to this EMMC. Deadlines and requirements for applications should be verified at www.ecohyd.org. Students selected by the consortium will receive grants from the European Union “Educational, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency”. These scholarships, 48.000 Euros for the entire course for category A students (from non-european countries) and 23.000 Euros for category B students (from European students), will cover all expenses with fees, travelling and subsistence for the period of the course (24 months). Students not requiring grant are also welcome to attend to the course. For these candidates, the value of the fees is 8.000 Euros/year and 4.000 Euros/year, respectively for category A and B students.

Requirements for admission

A - Proof that the applicant has successfully accomplished a first degree of higher education equivalent to a B.Sc. degree with at least 180 credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and a final mark of 2.5 (according to the German grading scheme) or B (in the US-American grading scheme) in one of the following subjects: biology, ecology, geosciences, environmental sciences, limnology, oceanography, marine sciences, aquatic engineering or any similar subject. (Portugal : 13/20 as a minimum); Spain : B : 6.5/10; France : B: 12/20; cf. NARIC network for equivalence of scoring in the countries ….


B - Fluency in English language at least according to the C1 level of the European reference scheme for language skills. The admission board might abstain from any proof of English language skills, if English was the language of instruction/teaching language for the B.Sc. degree.

C - A Letter of Motivation stating the applicants interest in the study programme.

D - Two Letters of Recommendation not older than two years either by two university teachers or by one university teacher and one internationally recognised marine scientist.

Application form

Applications must include:

•Proof (officially certified copies / English transcripts) that all admission requirements according to § 1 are met (officially certified copies of certificates, B.Sc. diploma, etc.), Curriculum Vitae,
•Record of the study history (study performances and exam results with information on ECTS, Transcript of Records or equivalent document),
•Letter of Motivation (Statement of interest in the study programme),
•Two Letters of Recommendation,
•If the previous degree (usually B.Sc.) has not been finished at the time of application: Proof that a study and exam performance of at least 120 ECTS has been achieved,
•If applicable, proof of relevant professional and/or extra-academic qualifications.
All documents must be submitted in English (authenticated translations in case of originals that are not in English).

Applications may already be submitted before the first degree of higher education (usually B.Sc.) has been successfully finished, if at least 120 ECTS of the programme have been successfully completed. If the applicant meets all of the other admission requirements according to § 1, admission can be granted on the condition that the first degree of higher education must be successfully finished by 30 September.

The following required extra documents:

•A copy of the passport or other official identification proof.
•At least two letters of recommendation Legalised copies of diplomas and a translation in English.
•If legalised copies of diplomas are not available at the time of application, an original
•statement from your current university about the studies done so far and the studies currently being done must be provided. In addition a legalised copy of your registration (or student card) must be provided. (only for non-European students)
•Copies of diploma supplements stating courses followed and scores obtained per course and a translation in English.
•Copies of language tests scores and language certificates (eg. TOEFL score)
