Overview
A Program of Research on Opportunities and Challenges in Engineering Education in Denmark (PROCEED). Funded by the Danish Strategic Research Council, 2010-2013.
Announcement of three PhD grants. Application deadline March 1, 2010.
The overall objective of PROCEED is to investigate how engineers and engineering educators are responding to the environmental, socio-economic and scientific-technological challenges facing their profession. It is organized as a strategic alliance among four universities in Denmark (Aalborg University, Århus University, Roskilde University and the Technical University of Denmark) with international collaborators in the United States, the Netherlands, Australia and Vietnam. The overall coordinator is Professor Andrew Jamison, Aalborg University.
We seek applications for PhD grants to work on each of the following thematic projects:
A. Challenges and responses in historical perspective (DTU Management Engineering)
B. Curriculum design and learning outcomes
C. Models and simulations in engineering
D. Design capabilities and engineering practices in industry
E. Integrating contextual knowledge into engineering education
We seek candidates for fully-funded three-year PhD positions, to begin in May 2010. Each successful applicant will work primarily within one of the three thematic projects A, B and C.
Project A will be based at the Technical University of Denmark within the doctoral school of management engineering: www.man.dtu.dk. For more information on enrolment and details of the PhD studies visit: www.dtu.dk/English/education/Phd_Education.aspx.
Project B will be based at Aarhus University within the graduate school of social sciences: www.samfundsvidenskab.au.dk/en/research/aarhus-graduate-school-of-social-sciences/.
Project C will be based at Roskilde University within the doctoral school of philosophy and science studies: www.ruc.dk/cuid/uddannelser/ss_selt/.
Eligible Candidates
For all three positions, successful candidates must satisfy the Danish requirements for PhD education, namely a completed master’s degree and a formally certified diploma and educational record. Applications must include curriculum vitae, examination certificate, references and a cover letter outlining the motivation for the PhD study that indicate the competence of the applicant to conduct research within the program within one of these thematic areas. We welcome proposals that can connect the main project to one or more of the others. Both Danish and foreign applicants are welcomed, since the working language within the program is English.
Target Candidates
All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.
How to apply
The deadline for applications is March 1, 2010. Applications should be sent online to Professor Andrew Jamison, Aalborg University, the program coordinator, in accordance with the application requirements for the PhD program to which the applicant’s project is to be based: andy@plan.aau.dk.
The assessment of applicants will be carried out by the program coordinator and the PROCEED management board. Please contact Professor Jamison for further information.
