The Ministry of Education of Taiwan offers one Scholarship to students of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia

Overview

The Ministry of Education of Taiwan offers one scholarship to students of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia for the academic year 2010/11. The scholarship is intended to encourage the study of degree programs, which are taught in English or Chinese (undergraduate, Master and PhD programs).

Types of Scholarship and values:

(1) Undergraduate Scholarship (NTD 25,000 per month)
(2) Master Scholarship ( NTD 30,000 per month)
(3) Ph.D. Scholarship ( NTD 30,000 per month)
(1 € = 42,20 NTD in January 2010)

- Recipients may attend Language Enrichment Programs in University - affiliated Chinese Language Centers in Taiwan up to one year (NTD 25,000 per month), before beginning the degree program.
- Flight ticket, tuition fees and health insurance are not paid additionally

Scholarship period: September 2010 until August 2011

- Maximum duration for bachelor students: 4 years (plus 1 optional year of Mandarin Chinese studies)
- Maximum duration for master students: 2 years (plus 1 optional year of Mandarin Chinese studies)
- Maximum duration for doctoral students: 3 years (plus 1 optional year of Mandarin Chinese studies)

Students who finish the first year of study with success are eligible to reapply at the Taiwanese university in order to receive the scholarship for the following year.


Requirements for qualification:

- Austrian, Slovenian or Croatian citizenship
- General qualification for university entrance
- Students who already received a scholarship from the Taiwanese government as well as students who are currently studying in Taiwan are not eligible to apply for the same or lower academic degree.

Application documents:

- Completed application form (see www.taipei.at/culture/de)
- A photocopy of proof of general qualification for university entrance or proof of study success (English)
- Two letters of recommendation from university teachers
- Study plan written in English or Chinese
- Photocopy of a completed application form of the Taiwanese university (+ copy of application for a Chinese language center if Language Enrichment Programs will be attended before the degree program)
- A photocopy of proof of language proficiency for the language used in the degree program (Chinese or English; not necessary for students who attend the Language Enrichment Program in the first year)

Application deadline: 31st March 2010

The candidates should apply personally at the preferred Taiwanese university and/or Language
Center for admission and submit the necessary application documents (depending on the university!

Information is available on the homepages of the universities) to the Taiwanese university and Language Center in time. Candidates are advised to submit their admission letters issued by the Taiwanese university together with the signed original “Taiwan scholarship terms of agreement” to the Culture Division in Vienna by June 20th.
