FULBRIGHT Bulgarian-American Commission for Educational Exchange 2011-2012

Overview

The Hubert H. Humphrey Program was initiated in 1978 to honor the memory and accomplishments of the late Senator and Vice President, Hubert H. Humphrey. Since 1978 more than 3000 Fellows from over 140 countries have participated in the program.

The program provides mid-career professionals in the private and public sector with an opportunity for a 10-month non-degree academic and professional training in the following areas:

Agricultural development/Agricultural Economics; Communications/Journalism; Substance Abuse Education, Treatment and Prevention; Economic development/Finance and Banking; Educational Administration, Planning and Policy; HIV/AIDS Policy and Prevention; Human Resource Management; Law and Human Rights; Natural Resources and Environmental Management; Public Health Policy and Management; Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration; Technology Policy and Management; Trafficking in Persons, Policy and Prevention; Urban and Regional Planning.

Eligibility Requirements

- Candidates must have Bulgarian citizenship (green card holders and persons with double citizenship are ineligible).
- Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor's degree.
- English language proficiency (a valid TOEFL score) is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the respective field is required.
- Candidates should be under 50 years of age and in sound health.

General Selection Criteria

- Candidates should demonstrate potential for leadership and commitment to public service with an emphasis on national development needs.
- Candidates should demonstrate a daptability and personal suitability.
- Candidates should be representative and responsible citizens who can contribute to a full picture of the culture and civilization of Bulgaria .
-Preference is generally given to candidates who have not had prior professional experience in the U.S.
- All candidates will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex or sexual orientation.


CHECKLIST

A complete application includes:

- A completed application form: рlease, submit your application forms on-line at apply.embark.com/student/humphrey/fellowship/ (A PDF form is available for your reference here)
- Certified translation into English of verified copies of original academic transcript and first degree certificate from each university or post-secondary institution;
- Certified translation into English of verified copies of doctoral or other qualifying degree certificates (if applicable);
- Detailed statement of proposed activity;
- Two references (please see the application form);
- Valid TOEFL scores.

The Fulbright Commission will advise applicants to submit a medical history and examination report if and when necessary.

A complete application set must be submitted in 3 identical copies. All items should be translated into English. Please send application sets only by mail to: Fulbright Commission, P.O. Box 288, 1000 Sofia, Bulgaria

Note: As application documents are not subject to return please use copies of official certified documents only. Finalists will submit originals at request.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS FOR AY 2011-2012: June 1, 2010
Submitting TOEFL scores by June 1, 2010 is considered an advantage.

Final deadline for submitting official test scores: September 24, 2010

Interviews of eligible candidates take place during the second half of June. Date and time are fixed.
