Overview
The Chateaubriand Fellowship program is an initiative by the Office of Science and Technology (MS&T) of the Embassy of France in the United States. This program is intended for public or private French research laboratories wishing to welcome a young American scientist, doctorant (preferably), or post-doctorant, for a 3 to 10 month period.
For the 2010 call, the program’s orientation and methods were re-examined. Grants aim to initiate or reinforce collaborations, partnerships, or joint projects (for example PUF, MIT-France, France-Chicago, France-Berkeley, France-Stanford, etc.) by encouraging an exchange at the doctoral level. The Office of Science and Technology wishes to privilege the candidacies of American doctorants seeking joint thesis supervision or, if possible, a joint degree with France.
Value of this fellowship
The MS&T will provide a stipend (2,000 Euros a month for a doctoral fellow) and cover the cost of travel and health insurance. No particular level of French is required ; it is at the host institution’s discretion. Language courses can be offered on site. All scientific disciplines are eligible.
The application form is available on the Chateaubriand website :
