Overview
The internationally renowned Tyndall Centre in conjunction with the Sustainable Consumption Institute at The University of Manchester are seeking an interdisciplinary but highly numerate physical sciences/engineering graduate to join a team of researchers investigating low-carbon shipping. The PhD researcher will be expected to develop a greenhouse gas emission model for shipping through their understanding of engine technology and propulsion systems. This PhD will form a pivot element of a wider project entitled 'The High Seas' project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
Entry Requirements
Applicants are expected to hold a first class, high 2:1 or Masters level degree and eligibility only applies to residents from the UK or EU.
Value of this studentship
The studentship will cover tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and provide a tax-free stipend of approximately £13,500 for 2010/11. Eligibility restricted to UK/EU applicants with 3 years residency in the UK.
