EADIC - Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window Scholarships for Argentinean scholars

Overview

Welcome to EADIC, a project designed in the framework of EU Programme "Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window" aiming to the creation of a mobility scheme between a consortium of EU Universities and a group of Argentinean higher education institutions. EADIC mobility scheme offers to Argentinean scholars at a PhD, post-doc or staff level the possibility to spend a period of study or research in one of the European partner Universities. The project deals with fields of study playing an important role in the social and economic developement of Argentina. More than one hundred scholarships are provided. The first EADIC call for applications closed on November 24th, 2009.

The new call for applications will open on January 18th until March 14th, 2010 and it will only refer to specific levels such as Sandwich PhD for target group 1 and 2 and Post Doc Fellowship for target group 2 (please find the definitions of target group 1 and 2 on "who can apply" page). We strongly recommend the candidates to make previous contacts with the Host Universities in order to agree possible research projects and allow a smoother selection procedure. The involved European universities are: Università degli Studi di Padova - Italy; University of Antwerp - Belgium; University of Leuven - Belgium; Université de Lille 1 - France; Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz - Austria; Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena - Germany; Universidade de Coimbra - Portugal


Who can apply

EADIC project supports mobility schemes for Argentinean PhD scholars, Post-doc Fellows and Academic Staff. The project offers scholarships to spend a period of mobility in one of the 10 European partner Universities. No scholarships are available for Undergraduate or Master Level students. No scholarships are available for European citizens.

General requirements

In order to apply for a grant in the framework of EADIC project, applicants must fulfil the following general requirements:
1. Must be Argetinean citizens except for Academic Staff (see FAQ for the citizenship requirements of Academic Staff)
2. Must belong to one of the following Levels: PhD candidates; PhD scholars; Post Doc Fellows; Academic Staff
3. Must have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction or work used at the Host University

Eligible categories

Applicant must belong to one of the following Target groups:

TARGET GROUP 1 (TG 1) - 4 categories: Applicants currently enrolled or employed in one of the Argentinean universities members of the Consortium.

The following categories of applicants belong to target group 1:

-PhD Sandwich: Argentinean PhD scholars regularly enrolled in a PhD programme of one of the 10 Argentinean partner universities, and willing to spend a period of study/research, varying from 6 to 10 months, in one of the 10 European partner Universities. These scholars are expected to go back to their home country to finish their studies.

- PhD Full: Argentinean PhD candidates, that are not enrolled in any PhD programme yet, that are currently working for one of the 10 Argentinean partner universities, being involved in research, didactic or administrative areas and are willing to enroll in a Full PhD programme in one of the 10 European partner universities.

- Post Doc Fellowship: (no longer available in the second call for applications) Argentinean Fellows, that own a PhD title, that are currently working for one of the 10 Argentinean Universities, being involved in research, didactic or administrative areas and are willing to apply for a Post Doc Fellowship programme in one of the 10 European partner Universities.

- Academic Staff: (no longer available in the second call for applications) Professors, currently working for one of the 10 Argentinean universities and willing to spend a period of mobility for teaching, research and institutional cooperation in one of the 10 European partner universities.
TARGET GROUP 2 (TG 2) - 3 categories: Applicants affiliated to other Argentinean universities that are not members of the Consortium or working in public or private institutes active in the thematic fields of the project.

The following categories of applicants belong to target group 2:

- PhD Sandwich: Argentinean PhD scholars regularly enrolled in a PhD programme of one of the other Argentinean Universities, and willing to spend a period of study/research, varying from 6 to 10 months, in one of the 10 European partner Universities. These scholars are expected to go back to their home country to finish their studies.

- PhD Full: PhD candidates, who are Argentinean citizens that are not enrolled in any PhD programme yet and are willing to enroll in a Full PhD programme in one of the 10 European partner Universities. These citizens should be working in one of the other Argentinean Universities or being actually employed in any Argentinean public or private institution active in the thematic areas of the project.

- Post Doc Fellowship: Post doc Fellows, who are Argentinean citizens, that own a PhD title and are willing to apply for a Post Doc Fellowship programme in one of the 10 European partner Universities. These citizens should be working in one of the other Argentinean Universities or being actually employed in any Argentinean public or private institutions active in the thematic areas of the project.

Grants

Each grant consists of 4 parts:

1 - Monthly Allowance
2 - Travel costs: return ticket to Host University (according to a set compensation based on the distance)
3 - Health insurance costs
4 - Tuition fee, if necessary

Grants will be awarded on the basis of the Level and Target Group of Applicants.

Sandwiches PhD € 1.500/month
Full Phd € 1.500/month
Post Doc Fellowship € 1.800/month
Academic Staff mobility € 2.500/month

Application instructions

The application for EADIC project must be made on-line.The deadline is March 14th, 2010.

In order to apply for a scholarship, applicants must proceed according to the following steps:

1. Check out the general requirements and the mobility flows and grants available.
2. Look over the Academic Opportunities available at the 7 European partner Universities participating to the second call for applications.
3. After choosing the mobility programme, they must fill in the on-line Application Form. Applicant can choose a maximum of 2 options in order of preference. The application form must be filled out in English or in the language of the host country.
4. Particular attention must be paid to the Motivation statement. In the Motivation Statement the applicant should first introduce him/herself and explain why he/she wants to apply in the EADIC project. He/she should describe which are his/her planned objectives and expected results of his/her mobility and provide the reason why he/she is applying for that Host University. Since the applicant may chose up to two Host Universities he/she may also provide distinct motivations for both Host Universities selected in the application form. In that case, the applicant may divide the Motivation statement into two short essays each one dedicated to a Host University. The maximum length admitted for the statement is 1000 characters. The Motivation statement must be written in English or in the language of the host country.
5. Prepare the required original supporting documents to be uploaded.

PhD Program

• Copy of passport/ID;
• Proof of registration or working affiliation to the home institution;
• Curriculum vitae with list of publications;
• Previous study certificates;
• Current studies and records;
• Description of Research project or interests;
• Reference letters from the local PhD supervisor of the Home institution

Postdoctoral Program

• Copy of passport/ID;
• Proof of registration or working affiliation to the home institution;
• Curriculum vitae with list of publications;
• Previous study certificates;
• Description of Research project or interests;
• Reference letters from the Home institution.
