Japanese Government Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarships for Australian Citizens 2010-2011

Overview

The Japanese Government’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships for academic study in Japan to foreign students interested in deepening their understanding of the Japanese language, Japanese affairs and Japanese culture. The purpose of these scholarships is to promote mutual understanding and deepening friendly ties between Japan and other countries through the application of advanced knowledge regarding Japan’s language and culture. Regulations for the 2010 MEXT Scholarship Program are as follows:

Qualifications

- Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan. An applicant who has Japanese nationality at the time of application is not eligible. Selection is conducted at facilities such as the Japanese Embassy /Consulate General (hereinafter “Japanese legation”) located in the country of the applicant’s nationality. (This shall not necessarily be applied in cases where one embassy covers multiple nations.)
- Age Applicants must be born between April 2, 1980 and April 1, 1992.
- Academic Background: Applicants must be undergraduates at foreign (non-Japanese) universities majoring in fields related to the Japanese language or Japanese culture at the time of arriving in and leaving Japan.


Scholarship Benefits

- Actual amount of scholarship benefits in 2009: 125,000 yen per month
- Transportation to Japan
- Transportation from Japan
- Tuition and Other Fees:Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be borne by the Japanese Government

Please note:

1. that all applications must be typewritten or neatly written.
Application forms must arrive at the Embassy by Tuesday, 16 March 2010.
2. that no more than two references are necessary.
3. that sheet for an Application (Annex) for Admission will be forwarded to the short-listed applicants later on.
4. that there will be a Japanese language examination on Wednesday 24 March 2010 at your nearest Embassy/Consulate General of Japan. Other examination sites may also be decided after reviewing applications.
