Germany: Programme Specialist - UNESCO International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training

Overview

Under the authority and supervision of the Head of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Bonn the incumbent shall contribute to the development and implementation of UNEVOC programmes activities in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in areas related to international cooperation through the UNEVOC network, knowledge building, management sharing and capacity building. In particular, he/she will:

- Promote cooperation activities within the UNEVOC network and the sharing of good practices and innovations, including through the organisation of workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Implement and monitor research activities in areas related to the programme of UNEVOC.
- Contribute to maintaining and enrich the knowledge base of the Centre and promote its access and use by member states, be responsible for all aspects of the UNEVOC Website, with particular reference to the design of the site, implementation and frequent updating of materials that appear on the UNEVOC Website.

- Contribute in organizing and co-ordinating capacity development activities in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)

Profile

- Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in Education, or in a field related to labor studies, development studies or economics.
- 4 to 7 years of relevant experience in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), preferably with at least two years at international level. Knowledge and experience of working in developing countries would be an asset. .
- Well developed writing and research skills.
- Ability to build partnerships and to work harmoniously with others in the Centre and with those working in education in Member States and other organisations (e.g. ILO, EFT, etc.) with which UNEVOC deals.
- Experience with working/collaboration with the corporate sector would be an asset.
- Experience in teaching/training, would be an asset.
- Familiar with the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT’s) including contemporary software/applications; experience in website maintenance and development would be an asset.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English or French; a good knowledge of the other language would be an asset. Some knowledge of German would be an added advantage.


Conditions of employment

UNESCO’s salaries are calculated in US dollars but mainly paid in local currency. They consist of a basic salary and a post adjustment which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates. For this post, the annual remuneration in local currency will start from around USD 90.576 (USD 84.546 if without dependants), exempt from income tax.In addition, UNESCO offers an attractive benefits package including 30 days annual vacation, home travel, education grant for dependent children, pension plan and medical insurance. The initial appointment, which is for two years, includes a probationary period of 12 months, and is renewable, subject to satisfactory service. Worldwide mobility is required as staff members have to serve in other duty stations according to UNESCO’s job rotation policy. UNESCO is a non-smoking organization.
