Overview
IPRS are awarded to outstanding international research higher degree candidates. They receive full financial support for tuition fees, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and a living allowance of $22,500 per year.
Details: The IPRS covers the full cost of tuition fees and standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the candidate and their accompanying dependants. The living allowance for IPRS recipients is provided by The University of Queensland through the UQ Centennial Scholarship.
Closing Date: There are four scholarship rounds (February, May, August & November). All international applicants who request scholarship support on their Application for Admission and Scholarship are considered for this scholarship.
Sources of Funding: The Australian Federal government provides the IPRS (tuition fees and OSHC). The University of Queensland provides the UQ Centennial Scholarship (living allowance).
Basis of Award: Academic merit; research experience and/or potential; match with University research strengths.
Eligible candidates
To hold this scholarship, you must
- be an international applicant,
- meet international student visa requirements as specified by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs.
- undertake a research project in an area of research strength at the University of Queensland.
- not already have an academic qualification equivalent to or at a higher level than the research higher degree program you are undertaking.
- not have held an Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) scholarship within the two years prior to commencing the IPRS.
- not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government makes a substantial contribution.
Scholarship Rules: This scholarship confirms to the UQ Research Scholarship General Conditions except as follows.
Scholarship Structure: PhD candidates who received their offer of an IPRS on or before 21 December 2009 may apply for two tuition fee and OSHC extensions of 6 months to the duration of the IPRS.
Part-Time Scholarships: The IPRS cannot be held on a part-time basis.
