World Scholars Alumni Foundation (WSAF) Scholarship programme for developing countries

Overview

The WSAF scholarships and awards are made available under a series of bilateral educational agreements with governments of the recipient countries and institutions of higher learning around the world. The government of the recipient countries and various multinational companies in these countries has been the principal benefactor in a bid to foster development in these countries.

How many people will be awarded scholarships by WSAF?

There is no limit to the number of people that will be awarded the WSAF scholarship so long as candidates fulfill the requirements.

What is the value of the scholarship awarded?

- The value will depend on the location of the institution of higher learning the applicant selected. - Generally the scholarship amount includes the following:-
- Tuition fees
- Maintenance allowance
- Books
- Flight tickets (For candidates who wish to study outside home country)

What are the odds of me receiving the WSAF Scholarship?

The success rate of our applicant pool has been anywhere from just below 40% up to 50% in the past few years. We cannot make any predictions as to how many applicants we will have in a given year.

All paperwork must be in English.

Who is eligible for this scholarship?Applicant must meet all of the following criteria.Each applicant is allowed to submit only one (1) application. Fulfill the necessary academic requirements.Intend to study or are currently pursuing courses at higher learning institutions.

Eligibility Requirements

Undergraduate Degree:

•Completed WSAF Scholarship 2010 Application form
•A recent passport photograph
•Secondary School Certificate of Education or equivalent from your own country; or Bridging/Foundation courses; or Diploma/Advanced Diploma.
•Relevant Academic Transcripts (Transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation)
•Certified true copy of Birth certificate (Proof of age)
•Two Letters (no more, no less) of Recommendation
•One of the following: Acceptance letter from a college/university, proof of application for enrollment in a university programme.
•Statement of purpose
•Any other documents that applicants wish to submit to strengthen their application, including written articles, reports of volunteer work, extra-curricular certificates etc


Master’s Degree (Postgraduate):

•Completed WSAF Scholarship 2010 Application form
•A recent passport photograph
•Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
•Bachelor Honours Degree; or a Graduate Diploma
•Relevant Academic Transcripts (Transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation)
•Certified true copy of Birth certificate (Proof of age)
•Two Letters (no more, no less) of Recommendation
•One of the following: Acceptance letter from a college/university, proof of application for enrollment in a master’s programme.
•Detailed Statement of Purpose describing career objectives and work experience.
•Any other documents that applicants wish to submit to strengthen their application, including written articles, reports of volunteer work, extra-curricular certificates etc


Ph.D or Doctoral Degree:

•Completed WSAF Scholarship 2010 Application form
•A recent passport photograph
•Master’s Degree/Equivalent Qualification
•Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
•Statement of Research Interest
•Brief details of your Research Plan (max. 3 pages). (Background and Literature Review, Aims/Hypothesis, Methods).
•Relevant Academic Transcripts (Transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation)
•Certified true copy of Birth certificate (Proof of age)
•Two Letters (no more, no less) of Recommendation
•One of the following: Acceptance letter from a college/university, proof of application for enrollment in a Doctoral programme.
•Detailed Statement of Purpose describing career objectives and work experience.
•Any other documents that applicants wish to submit to strengthen their application, including written articles, reports of volunteer work, extra-curricular certificates etc.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Candidates must attach softcopies of the documents to be submitted to the Scholarship Committee. WSAF is currently accepting softcopies only. No hardcopies will be accepted.
