Overview
Georg-August-Universitaet Goettingen - Center for Statistics
The Center for Statistics at the Georg-August University Goettingen is inviting applications for 9 PhD Positions in Ecology, Genetics and Statistics within the Research Training Group (RTG 1644) "Scaling Problems in Statistics", funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG).
The highly interdisciplinary Research Training Group aims at the solution of current questions in the areas of agricultural economics, genetics, ecology, econometrics and remote sensing by means of statistical methods, and at the development of the latter. It distinguishes itself through a structured graduation program, joint supervision, and a study program consisting of methodologically oriented lectures and interdisciplinary research seminars.
The Research Training Group involves the Institutes for Mathematical Stochastics, Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, Agroecology, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Ecosystem Modelling, Forest Inventory and Remote Sensing, Genetic Epidemiology, Statistics and Econometrics, Courant Research Centre on Poverty, Equity and Growth in Developing Countries.
PhD Projects
Ecology
•Scale issues in forest information procurement
•Scales of bacterial interactions on the leaf surface
•Scale dependence of plant-insect interactions and community structure in changing landscapes
•The role of heterogeneity in spatial plant population dynamics
Genetics
•Association studies in genetic epidemiology
•Scale effects on genomic modelling and prediction
•Detecting and understanding selection in farm animals - a coalescent approach
Interdisciplinary
•Scale and context mediated conservation management in fragmented landscapes and populations
•Understanding scale in multi-tier networks - spatial disease dynamics and agricultural innovation
Requirements
Successful applicants hold a master's degree in Ecological Sciences, Genetics, Animal Breeding, Forestry, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field with a high interest in statistical methodologies and interdisciplinary work.
Conditions of employment
