Plymouth Business School Research Fellow in Quantitative Methods, Modelling and Econometrics,

Overview

Main purpose of role: Working with academic colleagues involved in quantitative methods, modelling and econometrics on a range of different projects within the Research Centre for Maritime Logistics, Economics and Finance.

Primary responsibilities:

• Work with the academic manager(s)/principal investigators of ongoing research projects as appropriate.
• Liaise with key stakeholders on the research projects.
• Undertake research e.g. preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcomes of desk and fieldwork, development of questionnaires and conducting surveys including conducting literature and database searches.
• Perform data collection using a variety of appropriate techniques as required
• Maintain accurate and detailed records as directed by project managers.
• Carry out quantitative analysis and writing up the results
• Disseminating the research findings by contributing to the production of final reports and publications.
• Presentation of relevant results at conferences and other venues.
• Contribute to the planning and management of the research projects
• Liaising with research colleagues and other research departments within the University on matters pertaining to the research projects.
• Liaising with a network of internal and external contacts to undertake the work on the projects as appropriate.
• Working with the academic research manager / principal investigator on the day to day administration and organisation of the research.
• Identification of research funding opportunities and contribution to preparation of bids
• As part of development could be expected to contribute to introductory teaching and learning activities, for example on the use of research methods and equipment.
• Any other duties as may be reasonably required within the general scope of the role.
• To be familiar with research ethics requirements and the principles of good research practice

Qualifications/ Education Training

• Good first degree (2:1 or above) in relevant discipline (including for example, Quantitative Business Studies)
• Masters degree and/or
PhD in relevant discipline including for example Quantitative Business Studies.


Knowledge
• Excellent knowledge of quantitative methods, modelling and econometrics and excellent skills in quantitative data analysis using appropriate software.
• Knowledge of relevant database, modelling and econometric tools.


Experience

• Project management involving a range of organisations and individuals
• Conducting desk based and empirical studies involving data collection and analysis from a range of sources • Working with service and enterprise organisations

Skills / Abilities

• Independent working skills, excellent organisational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage and contribute to all stages of the research process including dissemination of research findings to academic and non-academic audiences
• Ability to manage a range of tasks and prioritise around deadlines • Ability to manage web-sites.

Other job related factors

• Ability to travel to as required to undertake research duties (e.g. data collection, presentation of findings, visits to collaborating organisations)
