Denmark: PhD in Integration and Optimization of Renewable Energy Systems for Housing

Overview

At the Faculties of Engineering, Science and Medicine, Department of Energy Technology a PhD stipend is available within the general study programme Mechanical Engineering. The stipend is open for appointment from September 1, 2010.

Job description

Integration and Optimization of Renewable Energy Systems for Housing

The PhD project is a part of a larger interdisciplinary project framework on the development of CO2 neutral buildings called ZEB (Zero Emission Buildings). See http://www.zeb.aau.dk for more information on the project framework – this PhD project is a part of the work package number two (WP2) in the overall project framework as described on the homepage (see the pane Project Descriptions).

The project takes its starting point in a one-family house. Based on consumption and requirement scenarios, the objective is to analyse and design an optimal energy system for future households. The project is expected to analyse various solutions and technologies in relation to a household’s energy system. In relation to the project, the following subjects are emphasised: optimisation of systemic energy concepts, including control, but also new component and technology possibilities.

Applicants for the PhD position should hold a Master's degree in mechanical or thermal engineering or other relevant field and should have a sound background in modeling of thermo-mechanical systems, thermodynamics and heat transfer. Good simulation skills are a requirement. Experience with laboratory work is advantageous but a non mandatory requirement.

For further information concerning the technical aspects of the stipend, please contact Associate Professor Mads Pagh Nielsen, phone: +45 2425 50 93 or Associate Professor Henrik Sørensen, phone +45 2757 5280 .
