PhD Position in Mathematical Statistics, Lund University

Overview

Division of Mathematical Statistics in centre for Mathematical Sciences is in common for the science faculty and the technical faculty (LTH) at Lund University. At the time being, 25 teachers, researchers and PhD students work in several areas in fundamental statistics as well as different application areas. Present research areas in mathematical statistics are spatial-temporal stochastic models, non-parametric inference, random graphs, statistical signal processing, filtering and inference in partial observed systems with applications in financial mathematics, environmental research and medicine.

PhD-studies in Mathematical Statistics, comprising in total two years of course work and two years of thesis work. Usually additionally one year (20% each year of a five year period) is also dedicated to work at the department, mainly teaching.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements

In addition to the basic qualifications for postgraduate studies, 60 ECTS credits are required in mathematical subjects, of which at least 30 ECTS credits in mathematical statistics. A degree project comprising 30 ECTS credits is also required. See also the discipline curriculum for Mathematical Statistics.

Basis of Assessment

Regulations for employment as a postgraduate student can be found in the Swedish Statute Book (SFS 1998:80). Only thos admitted to postgraduate studies can be appointed to such a position. When appointing applicants to sucha position, first and foremost their ability to benefit from postgraduate studies must be taken into consideration. In addition to pursuing postgraduate studies, the doctoral student may also perfomr other duties, including research, teaching and administration, according to the specific regulations.
