SMURF: Singapore-MIT Undergraduate Research Fellowship

Overview

We are now accepting applications for Singapore-MIT Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SMURF) to carry out research in Singapore. This enables undergraduates from MIT, NTU and NUS to participate in a MIT-SMART faculty member’s Singapore research project and interact with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds. Each undergraduate will have a MIT-SMART researcher as a mentor/supervisor and conduct research within the faculty member’s research project. The SMURF will have access and use of the faculty’s laboratory and equipment.

Research at the SMART Centre is organised into Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs):

•BioSystems and Micromechanics (BioSyM)
•Center for Environmental Sensing and Modeling (CENSAM)
•Future Urban Mobility (FM)
•Infectious Diseases (ID)

Eligibility: MIT, NTU, and NUS undergraduates in good standing who have already, or would have successfully completed their first year are eligible to apply.
Application: Applications are now being accepted and are due by February 12, 2011. Successful applicants will be notified by e-mail on or before March 18, 2011

This is a Government-to-Government scheme without any bond imposed by the Singapore Government. The recipients of the Singapore Scholarship are expected to return home to contribute to the development of their countries upon graduation.
