Overview
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED for the 2012-2014 Fulbright Foreign Student Program. More information and links to the application system are below.
This prestigious scholarship program, launched by the U.S. Congress and the late U.S. senator William J. Fulbright in 1946, allows outstanding students worldwide to study at U.S. universities to further their academic and professional careers as well as to promote international cultural understanding. This year, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first Fulbright exchanges between the United States and Iraq.
Outstanding Iraqi graduate students are urged to apply online to the program. The scholarship will fund up to two years of study at a U.S. university, at the Master's degree level. All disciplines and academic fields of study are available under this program, with the exception of medicine and other clinical studies. We hope to award 35 Fulbright student scholarships for study beginning in Fall 2012.
Participation in the Fulbright Program is an opportunity for exceptional Iraqi students to experience life in the United States first-hand. Iraqi Fulbright students also have the opportunity to share Iraq's rich culture with Americans and to serve as "student ambassadors," both in the classroom and in everyday life.
The Fulbright Scholarship Program in Iraq seeks to develop future leaders in all fields and to contribute to the educational goals of both countries. The Bi-national Fulbright Selection Committee at the U.S. Embassy selects candidates from a variety of academic disciplines, from all parts of Iraq. The program funds all costs relating to tuition, travel, accommodations, living stipends, and health insurance.
Applicants must:
- Be Iraqi citizens living in Iraq.
- Hold a B.A. or B.S. degree or plan to finish their bachelor’s degree by summer 2012.
- Be proficient in English with the ability to score a 550 on the TOEFL exam. TOEFL exams will be conducted after candidates are selected.
- Write their personal statement themselves, without copying from the internet or any other source. This is considered plagarism and applicants will be disqualified as a result.
Demonstrate a clear commitment to return to Iraq after completion of study.
